Edinburgh beer wins micro brewery of the year

Edinburgh’s Cold Town Beer has been named Micro Brewery of the Year at The Scottish Bar & Brew Awards 2019.

Over 150 people gathered at Marriott Hotel in Glasgow earlier this month to celebrate the best bars, pubs and breweries in Scotland. Venues and individuals that strive to be different within the industry were rewarded.

Hospitality providers across Scotland that performed well over the past year and considered the best by the public came out victorious.

Cold Town Beer first launched in 2018 as a beer for everyone, bridging the gap between craft and standard lagers. The beer was named in honour of Calton Hill Brewery in Edinburgh which was the first in Britain to brew lager in 1835.

Cold Town Beer is served across 22 pubs, bars and restaurants in Scotland and finds its home at Cold Town House in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket. Opened in early 2019, Cold Town House hosts eight 500 litre beer tanks where Cold Town Beer is brewed fresh for its guests. The venue also serves up a number of unique special brews for visitors to discover.

Head Brewer at Cold Town Beer, Ed Evans, said:

“We are really excited to have been named as Micro Brewery of the year at The Scottish Bar & Brew Awards. Having only started brewing in April 2018, we are still quite new to the industry so this is a massive achievement for us. We are very proud of our small batch lager and are continuously experimenting and discovering new varieties for our drinkers to try. We founded Cold Town Beer as a beer to be enjoyed by everyone so it is great to see our efforts being recognised.”
