| Scotland’s secondary schools are set to become more inclusive for all pupils, thanks to a new online professional learning resource developed by Education Scotland. |
| Recognising a need for secondary school teachers to have access to equitable professional learning on inclusive practice, Education Scotland created ‘Inclusion in Practice – The CIRCLE Framework: Secondary’.
It is based on The CIRCLE Framework, a collaboration between practitioners in Edinburgh City Council, Queen Margaret University and NHS Lothian, and is designed to promote effective inclusive practice in classrooms. The free professional learning resource is hosted online by The Open University in Scotland.  Education Scotland’s Strategic Director, Gillian Hamilton said the module was developed to provide professional learning for teachers who wanted to improve inclusion in and beyond their classrooms. “Teachers who complete the module will gain practical solutions to support all pupils to enable them to participate more fully in school life,” she said. “They will receive practical advice on how to meet the needs of individual learners and will be supported to develop collaborative approaches and share good practice. Depute Director for Student Experience and Widening access at The Open University in Scotland, Shona Littlejohn said: “We appreciate the importance of accessible professional development for teachers and we’re confident it’ll have a positive impact on the educational experiences of their pupils.” |
