US Immigrants’ Education and English Level Improved Over Recent Years?

According to a recent study, immigrants who come to the US do well academically and are more proficient in English than ever. Also, many individuals considered the survey “irrelevant”. Surprisingly, most people overlooked the fact that official graphs backed up the experiment with support from highly qualified officials in the US research industry.

The graph estimated one-third of the immigrants as remarkably fluent in English in 2016, and the figure has been increasing since then. Also, the illiteracy rate among the immigrants is comparatively higher than the US locals or old immigrants. They often have to work hard towards developing their lifestyles and almost 95% of the immigrants pursue further studies to land reputed careers in the long run.

The Reason behind the Change

Previously, immigrants faced major difficulties in almost every department and worked twice as hard as a US resident. Today, new immigrants are more capable when it comes to communication and academics.

The reason behind it is logical, and as many US residents call it “a smart move”.

Spilling the beans, most new immigrants to the US hold reputable degrees, through which they end up with lucrative careers and great perks.

Also, these immigrants tend to only speak English in their homes, at work or everywhere else, which helps them stay put and improve their pronunciation and basic communication skills.

Settling into a new environment can be difficult, but when it comes to adopting new things, as an immigrant, it’s easy to filter slang the residents usually speak. In turn, you’re only acquiring the good and acceptable words, which add to your proficiency in the language. Studymoose.com  will help you.

As compared to older US residents and immigrants, the biggest difference in proficiency level and academic success is that 44% of new immigrants have a high school diploma, where present residents and immigrants were mostly dropouts or on a gap year.

Public Response

The survey went viral and took a toll on many individuals on Twitter, where one of the Tweets targeted the immigrant’s plans for future by tweeting, “Still not secure enough to secure a solid future but coming legally but still that’s a smart move right there!”

One of the Tweets questioned the trend of valuing illegal immigrants by writing. “What is this obsession with illegal immigrants, when all the legal immigrants are constantly pinched into following the rules and laws?”

One other approved that these US immigrants were highly capable and wrote, “I think they speak and spell much better English than all the redheads.”

After the verified evidence, some still had the courtesy to question the results of the survey by asking, “I don’t think you have any idea, or do you? It is not possible to calculate the number of immigrants and their qualifications. At best, you can make a wild guess and nothing more than that. Also, making invalid claims is unethical and humiliating.”

The Tweet that got the most re-tweets said, “so you’re telling me that they are well aware of the laws they are breaking, great! – they are officially literate criminals.”

The survey became the talk of the town when government officials started discussing the issue at public forums. If you’re mistaking government officials who usually comment on things, you’re wrong. President Trump couldn’t stay away from the fuss and responded to the survey by saying, “a huge numbers of illegal “aliens” are invading various sectors of the US.”

The Outcome of the Change

The elevation of the literacy rate in the immigrants has cost them a fortune, but, the perks that they are getting are much higher than what an old immigrant or current resident is getting.

These immigrants receive high salaries, plus necessities and increments. Also, immigrants have a huge advantage of knowing multiple languages besides English, which is a requirement at many well-established businesses. Thus, there is a good chance for immigrants to land high, well-paid positions at businesses, and work towards their goals.

Recent predictions make it worse for the US residents, because according to experts if the figure keeps increasing at the same speed, in a year or two, every leading company will have immigrants as heads and residents working under their supervision.

Bottom Line

All in all, immigrants are filling the void created by natives forgoing the option to pursue higher education. If the trend continues, immigrants may overtake the number of native US citizens in colleges or universities. Moreover, the rise in proficiency over the English language is further contributing to this trend. Needless to say, there is no harm in immigrants dominating the academic arena. The overall impact will be positive for the US economy.
