Installing hot water heater on your own

Having a hot water heater is important for everyone especially when you live in a country with four seasons. In winter, the temperature will drop to an unbearable temperature and you won’t be able to shower with room temperature water anymore. Well, without freezing anyway. You’ll have to boil lots and lots of water in order to shower, but boiling water will take up so much of your time. This is why a hot water heater is important and beneficial.

With a hot water heater, you don’t have to go to the kitchen to boil water, you just have to turn the heater on and hot shower will come out directly. The best feeling in the world is when you take a hot shower and a hot bath after a long day of work, right? But in case you’re worried about having to call a professional plumber in Sydney to install it for you, don’t be. Anyone who can read an instruction manual will be able to install a hot water heater. It’s not an easy task, but it’s not hard or tricky either. So here is a little instruction on what you should do to install a new hot water heater or to replace an old one that’s already leaky and damaged.

So first of all, you will need to know the tools required. The most essential ones are: screwdriver, adjustable wrench, plumbers tape, pipe wrench, safety glasses (optional), soldering torch, tape measure, tube cutter, wire cutter, and a voltage tester. Also, you will need these materials: discharge pipe, fittings, pressure relief valve, pipe thread compound, solder, water and gas piping, and venting pipe and connectors. So once you’ve gathered all the required tools and materials, you can start working on installing the new heater. One important rule to always remember is to be safe and to never cheat on time. Take your time when you’re working and pay attention to all the details and make sure you’re following the instructions correctly.

So what you should do first is shut off the gas and water. When off, the handle should be at a right angle to the pipe. Don’t forget to shut off the water supply and drain the lines too. After that, drain the water in the tank by attaching a garden hose to the valve (be careful because the water is hot!). Next, you should cut off the water lines and attach the relief valve. Once you’re done, attach pipe assemblies and the water lines. After that, you can then reattach the vent by shoving it tightly over the draft hood. Reconnect the gas line by using two wrenches to attach the gas line to avoid stressing the valve. Fill the tank by closing the drain valve, turning the water back on and turn on a nearby hot water faucet and inspect all joints and fittings for leaky areas. If everything looks perfect, check for back drifting and leaks. When there is no sign of fumes and leaks, it means that your work was a huge success.

To make sure if everything works properly, try checking it once more to make sure that hot water is actually coming out. If it is, then congratulations. If it didn’t, then try to remember every part you did and which part you may have missed and trace back your steps. But if you’re not so sure about it and scared that things will go bad or you might break it instead, you can always call a plumber in Sydney to do the work for you.
