PREVIEW: An American Founding Father, a Victorian Novelist and a Russian Revolutionary Walk Into a Room

Winterthur, Switzerland — White Rabbit Theater Company proudly presents The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord, a whip-smart battle of wits. This clever comedy will play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 2–17 August 2019.

Three of the world’s preeminent thinkers and philosophers from different countries and eras ?nd themselves locked in a room with no exit. Attempting to figure out why they are in this room together, they examine the course of their lives and work searching for truth. Why us? And why, in God’s name, together?!

This lay promises to be raw and hilariously honest and unveils the many virtues and vices of these iconic thinkers. Throughout their lives, Tolstoy, Jefferson, and Dickens made decisions that directly contradicted the morals they spread.

Beside their individual achievements, they succumbed to in?delity, were materialistic, and acted sel?shly. The brisk and poignant theoretical romp explores the questions: Where do we go when we die? And where the hell are we now? Inevitably, it discovers a universal truth: no human is without ?aws.

Dickens: On earth, I wouldn’t speak to you!

The play was written by Scott Carter, Executive Producer of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” and features the international cast of Luke Walker, Ciaran Corsar and Tomi Gustaf under the direction of Claudia Wicki.

White Rabbit Theatre Company, founded by Courtney Beamish, is the only English-language theatre company in Winterthur, Switzerland.
