PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM has confirmed that Hibernian are on the cusp of signing Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on loan, while the capital club have handed a trial to South Africa international Ryan Moon.
Maxwell, 28, was in Edinburgh yesterday to complete the formalities of the move and Heckingbottom believes the Welsh stopper will provide stiff competition for established first-choice Ofir Marciano.
The Hibs head coach confirmed: “He certainly has the pedigree to challenge for the number one spot. We don’t want to bring a number two in – we want someone in who’s going to compete and hopefully make the team better. By adding that competition we are improving the side.
Moon, meanwhile, is currently undergoing a two-week trial period at Hibs’ East Lothian training base after being released by South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The 22-year-old striker has represented his country eight times, scoring one goal, and has also turned out for Maritzburg United in his homeland.
Meanwhile, stalwart Lewis Stevenson is expected to miss Hibs’ pre-season and Betfred Cup group phase campaign after suffering a calf tear.
