Following a sold-out world premiere run and unprecedented Festival demand, leaving people queuing for hours for returns at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018, Cora Bissett’s hit show What Girls Are Made Of will return in 2019, bursting out of the Traverse walls into Assembly Hall – almost four times as big.
This run also marks Raw Material’s return to Assembly Hall, where their 2016 presentation of Glasgow Girls, directed by Cora Bissett, was the best selling show of that year’s Fringe, selling over 12,000 tickets.
What Girls Are Made Of is written and performed by Bissett and charts her rollercoaster journey from indie-kid hopeful to wised-up woman.
This epic piece of gig theatre – with live backing band of actor/musicians Susan Bear, Simon Donaldson and Harry Ward – celebrates the euphoric highs (touring with Radiohead, partying with Blur) and epic lows (untrustworthy managers, £40,000 debt) of her young life as lead singer in the tipped-for-the-top band Darlingheart, poignantly interspersed with the personal losses and gains of her adult life.
Directed by former Traverse Artistic Director Orla O’Loughlin, and, for the first time, the run will feature special dates with the original Darlingheart drummer, Cathryn Stirling.
