Nearly a third of Edinburgh’s married couples regret their wedding

A study has found 15% of Edinburgh couples would prefer to be wed in Las Vegas rather than the Scottish capital.

Whilst 11% of the city’s couples thought their wedding was boring, and 5% saying they hated it.

The research was conducted by Instantprint and revealed many of the issues that married couples face on their big day.

Nearly one in ten (9%) blamed the British weather for their wedding day disappointment and six percent said they didn’t even enjoy the day because of the stress levels that come with planning a big event, which could explain the same numbers who spoiled their own day by getting too drunk.

Six percent said people didn’t get on and four percent said that the food was awful.

The research from instantprint revealed the marriage mayhem was predominantly caused by managing budgets (37%), table plans (24%), and choosing the dress (8%).

Nearly one quarter (24%) of residents said they struggled to deal with their partner’s in-laws on the day, whilst nearly a fifth (19%) blamed a sub-par photographer for ruining their wedding memories. Almost one tenth (9%) said they wish they could stop their guests getting too drunk.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for those who have been a groom, one quarter of men worried most about delivering a funny and heartfelt speech.

Though the terror didn’t last for long as more than three quarters (78%) said the day went by in a flash.

Jon Constantine-Smith, Head of instantprint, said “Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life and it’s shocking to find that so many Brits are disappointed in how their big day turned out.

“There is a lot of planning that goes into one day and we have worked with our buyers to reveal current trends, colours and styles for our new wedding stationery line and we hope it can ease a little pressure for those couples planning their nuptials in the future.”
