EDINBURGH Trams is turning five at the end of May, and the city’s tramway is celebrating by launching a charity children’s book featuring Tilly the Tram and her friends as they go on an adventure around the capital.
The book titled “Tilly the Tram’s Noisy Birthday” was written and illustrated by the staff of Edinburgh Trams, and printed locally in Scotland by Advanced Images. The book will go on sale on their website today from 12 noon with £3 from each sold donated to their charity of the year, The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. Aimed at the under-five’s the book invites readers to join the capers of Tilly the Tram and her friends Pippa the Plane, Bonnie the Bus and many more!
The book has also been created to help little tram fans keep safe, helping them to understand what sounds to listen out for when they are exploring the city.
The tale of Tilly and her transport companions can also be heard in three exclusive Tram Tales journeys taking place on Sunday 2 June, with those lucky enough to have snapped up the in demand tickets hearing the story on board a Tilly Tram read by Forth One’s Micky Gavin. Not only that, Micky will be on hand after the storytelling session to pump up the volume and to bring some on board Kiddi-oke!
Lea Harrison, Managing Director, Edinburgh Trams said: “Turning five is a big milestone for Edinburgh Trams, and every five year old wants a party with all their friends.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating with Tilly the Tram and her transport mates in what will be a unique and exciting event for our youngest customers.”
Mr Harrison added: “As well as having fun reading the book and attending our special events, the added bonus is that donations will go to our charity of the year, The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
“Their work to support children and families through their toughest times being much of the inspiration behind Tilly the Tram’s story.”
For every ticket sold, £6 of the money will go straight The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, who continue to transform the lives of children and young people in hospital and healthcare settings across Edinburgh.
