THE SCOTTISH Dance Theatre will debut The Circle, a new work by renowned choreographer Emanuel Gat, on Friday 3 May at Dundee Rep Theatre.
The event will run as part of a double bill with Colette Sadler’s RITUALIA, a re-imagining of Bronislava Nijinska’s Les Noces.
It is the first time the company has worked with the award-winning Israeli choreographer, and the first time since 2011 UK audiences will have an opportunity to see his work.
The Circle emerges from Scottish Dance Theatre as an emotional piece that tells the story of 12 individuals, focusing on the dancers’ acute relationship with each other.
Speaking ahead of the opening of his new work, the France-based choreographer said: “It’s been a pleasure to make work for such a talented hard working company.
“The Circle celebrates each dancer as an individual and their own unique dance language whilst also telling the story of this collective and the relationships contained within it.”
He added: “I’m excited for audiences to see these dancers in a new light and for the work to breathe as it feeds from their energy.”
RITUALIA, created by Berlin-based Scottish choreographer Colette Sadler, takes Bronislava Nijinska’s feminist cultural landmark that is Les Noces and transforms it by creating a fictional post-gender future.
Taking inspiration from fashion in late 20th century pop culture, RITUALIA brings audiences on a ritualistic journey as object and body are elevated to an iconic status.
Scottish Dance Theatre is also pleased to announce that RITUALIA has been selected to be part of the UK Dance Showcase at Surf The Wave 2019, an event presenting world class dance to industry programmers and promoters.
Originally from Glasgow, Sadler’s work has received international acclaim where her unique dance aesthetic challenges notions of contemporary performance, explores the role of the body and merges dance and visual art mediums.
