ABERDEEN-based EnerMech is supporting a charity set up by footballing legend Denis Law which engages with youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Streetsport is a Denis Law Legacy Trust initiative which encourages youngsters in Aberdeen to adopt a fitter and healthier lifestyle and helps reduce instances of youth crime and anti-social behaviour.
Run in conjunction with The Robert Gordon University and in partnership with Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Streetsport provide free-to-access sporting and creative activities throughout the year at more than 40 Aberdeen locations.
EnerMech has committed £10,000 over the next year which has allowed Streetsport to renew a lease on the astroturf facility at the city’s Northfield Academy, where each Friday evening hundreds of youngsters take part in a range of ball sports, dance and other activities.

The international headquarters of the mechanical services specialist in Howes Road is close to Northfield Academy and the business was keen to support the local community.
The charity’s focus on promoting safety, health and wellbeing was an ideal fit with EnerMech’s social responsibility programme.
David Logan, Central Support Group Manager at EnerMech, said: “Streetsport is widely recognised for the valuable work it is doing in improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged areas by giving them an outlet to express themselves through sport and other activities.
“They have made significant inroads in reducing anti-social behaviour by encouraging children and teenagers to become more active and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.”
He added: “Streetsport’s values chime strongly with EnerMech’s own ethos of putting safety and well-being at the top of our agenda and as a local employer we are delighted to be able to make a meaningful contribution in supporting the popular astroturf evening at Northfield Academy.”
Further down the line, EnerMech hopes that staff will be able to provide support as volunteers who assist at Streetsport events and ultimately the company will explore how it can assist local youngsters who are seeking apprenticeship or employment opportunities.
Streetsport Chief Operating Officer, Mark Williams, welcomed the EnerMech donation.
He said: “The Friday astroturf sessions at Northfield Academy is the most popular Streetsport event in Aberdeen and this generous contribution by EnerMech ensures we are able to continue providing this facility over the next calendar year.
“Support from local businesses is vitally important to our charity and we look forward to working with EnerMech in developing an ongoing relationship which will make a genuine difference to the lives of youngsters and families living close to their centre of operations.”
