A DRIVING instructor is being investigated after their car was caught on camera almost knocking over a cyclist in the middle of traffic calming measures.
The shocking incident happened as the cyclist rode through a narrowing in the road meant for one car at a time.
The learner vehicle appears to accelerate and squeezes past the cyclist with inches to spare, forcing him to emergency brake.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have confirmed they are investigating the footage.
Cyclist Richard Stokes uploaded his clip of the incident in Castle Bromwich, Solihull, West Midlands, and posted it to Twitter on Thursday.
The post was captioned: “Does this ‘professional’ driving instructor think that this is an appropriate place to overtake a cyclist?
“F****** b***end.”
The footage starts with Richard cycling down Chester Road when the instructor’s car can be seen approaching behind him.
Whilst passing a give way mark on the road, the Hyundai then overtakes the cyclist, forcing him to slow down.
A front view camera shows how Richard was given very little space when overtaking as the car went straight through the “give way to oncoming vehicles” without stopping.
It is not clear from the video whether a learner driver, or the instructor, was behind the wheel.
West Midlands Police Road Harm Reduction Team were among those who commented on the video, asking: “Was this on our area? If so please report via the digital portal for prosecution.

@mummyjilly commented: “Omg so close!”
Matt Smith said: “I didn’t think that was that bad until I saw the road narrowing.
“What a stupid place to overtake. You can’t ‘give as much room as you would a car’ if there’s only space for one!”
Mark Burton commented: “He should have his licence revoked, that’s shameful.”
Richard Hartles said: “Don’t surprise me roads are getting worse.”
Scott Wilson commented: “Driving instructors have been some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen on the road. I often ring them after to discuss how s*** their standards are!”
@ultim8valet said: “Unbelievable.”
Lucy Smith commented: “No patience that’s the trouble.”
The DVSA confirmed they are looking into the incident.
Approved Driving Instructor Registrar, Jacqui Turland, said: “We can confirm that we are investigating an allegation of poor driving instruction in the West Midlands, but cannot comment further at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing.”
