Leeds fanatic breaks ankle celebrating key goal – then refuses help for 30 minutes until whistle

A FANATICAL Leeds fan celebrated a crucial goal so wildly he broke his ankle – and then waited 30 minutes for the final whistle before getting help.

A gruesome picture shows Matt Richardson grinning broadly and giving a thumbs up even though is ankle is swollen and at a very odd angle.

The 18-year-old grimly stayed put because his side’s one-nil victory took them a step closer to being in the Premier League for the first time in 15 years.

It was only after the home game against Sheffield Wednesday ended that he was prepared to be evacuated to hospital for surgery.

Matt watch the remainder of the match with a broken ankle

The photo was uploaded to social media with the caption: “This Leeds fan broke his ankle celebrating the winner yesterday.

“Massive smile on his face, portable phone charger on checking the bets. Amazing!”

The image shows Matt’s foot completely twisted and disconnected from his ankle as it hangs limply by the stairs in the stand.

He later received hospital treatment his break

Matt later took to Twitter and posted a photo of his swollen ankle saying: “This is what supporting Leeds United does to me.

“Harrison scored, end up breaking my ankle celebrating, now sat in hospital awaiting operation, but I don’t care – we won.”

Kieran Cheshire responded online: “Can’t be a Leeds fan, a Leeds fan would have broken both ankles.”

Jude Picton added: “A real Leeds fan would have broke both his ankles and his toes and both his arms.”

Matt took to Twitter express his delight at Leeds United’s victory

Danny Higgins wrote: “A true Leeds fan would of broke both.”

Ali Curran said: ““Looks like a nasty one but he’s [a] tough cookie, he should run it off” Thanks Geoff.”

Matt has today said that he was determined to see out the 90 minutes after his break.

Matt said: “I’m good to be honest, my ankle is a bit sore, my main priority was to see out the full 90 minutes, in all honestly I couldn’t give a f*** how bad my ankle hurts I wasn’t missing the game.”

Matt also said that he didn’t take much notice of the pain at the time.

Many have taken the opportunity to troll Matt for his unfortunate celebration

“I broke it because I fell jumping about celebrating.

“I couldn’t feel it to be honest I was more interested in watching Leeds cream the Owls.

“I find the comments funny to be honest.”

The celebration came in the 65th minute after James Harrison scored the winner against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, Leeds.

The victory sees Leeds United take control of the second automatic promotion spot as they go three points ahead of Sheffield United who are in 3rd place with just four games to play.

Leeds United haven’t been in the Premier League since their relegation in 2004 and has since seen them compete three seasons in the third tier of English football.

Harrison’s winner was also celebrated by a guide dog which was barking whilst the Leeds supporters were celebrating the goal.
