Hearts boss quashes talks of quitting

Hearts manager Craig Levein insists he has no intention of walking away from the dugout and has dismissed rumours to plans to retire to Spain.

Supporters directed their anger towards the 54-year-old both during and after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to city rivals Hibs at Tynecastle.

The result has seen the Gorgie outfit slip behind their Easter Road counterparts to sixth in the Premiership following a disappointing run of two wins from eight league outings.

Talk had been sweeping through the capital that the former Scotland boss, who suffered a heart attack last August, was planning to step back from his manager’s post this summer.

But Levein is adamant that he plans to remain in the job for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I don’t know where that’s come from at all, people saying that I’m leaving to go to Spain – I don’t even like Spain.

“A lot of people have been asking me but I don’t know where it’s come from.

“When we lose to Hibs I expect to hear boos but nobody is more disappointed than me.

“We’ve got a Scottish Cup semi final next week (against Inverness) and we have the fortunate position of a chance to go to Hampden for the last game of the season and my focus is on that – and I’ll be here for a while yet.”
