Girl, 4, posts Mother’s Day card to her late mum “in heaven” – and gets reply two days later

A LITTLE girl sent her mum a heartbreaking Mother’s Day card – four months after she died of cancer.

Ella Lennon, four, put the card – addressed to “mummy in heaven” – in a postbox ahead of her first Mother’s Day without her mum.

Then, in an incredibly warm-hearted gesture, a member of staff at Royal Mail sent Ella a letter back from her mum, saying how proud she was of her.

The touching exchange was revealed by Ella’s aunt, Linda Ross, on social media.

Ella received the letter from a kind-hearted Royal Mail Member of Staff

Linda, from Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, posted: “On my sister’s 1st heavenly Mother’s Day, Ella sent her mummy a card.

“Today a kind stranger from the Royal Mail used their time to reply and make a little girl so happy!”

She added: “Her face lit up with the biggest smile. Just shows the amazing people in this world! Can’t thank you enough.”

Ella sent her mum, Jennifer, who died in December, a card with a picture of one of Despicable Me’s minions on the front along with the note “You’re one in a minion Mum.”

She sent the card in an envelope with a message on the front reading: “To Mummy in heaven, Happy Mother’s Day. I love you, Ella x.”

Two days after posting, a letter came back to Ella.

It said: “To my beautiful Ella. Thank you so much for my very special Mother’s Day card. You’re one in a minion to me and I love you very, very much. Millions and billions and trillions is how much I love you!

“You are growing up to be a very clever and special big girl and I am so proud of you, and even though I am in heaven I watch over you every day!”

The heartwarming letter is signed off with: “Lots of love, hugs and kisses, Mummy xxx.”

The letter’s envelope has a return address of “Mummy, 1 Angel Gate, In the clouds, Heaven” written on it.

Twitter user @BeeSansMerci commented: “I just cried at this.”

@KellyBlackx said: “Oh wow I’m sobbing! This is beautiful.”

@Ashwee_ox wrote: “Omg this is the sweetest thing ever.”

It is understood Jennifer, from Kilmarnock, battled a brain tumour for four years.

The heart warming letter made Ella smile and so happy

Ella’s dad, Dean, posted on social media: “I would like to thank the kind hearted person at the Royal Mail who sent Ella back a letter from her mummy in heaven. Her wee face was lit up x.”

Linda paid tribute to her sister on Facebook at the time of her death saying: “She was funny and beautiful and always thinking of others. I couldn’t have asked for a better big sister.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “We are all touched by this very moving story.”
