As corporate social responsibility becomes a bigger issue with greater environmental awareness, companies have had to try and adjust. Now while this might be mostly attributed to practices carried out by businesses, starting with making an office greener is a step in the right direction and may lead to further efforts to become more ethical.
1. Switch from traditional plastics
One good idea is to switch from plastics that are difficult to recycle and adopt alternatives. Acrylic and clear Perspex are perfect for many things, even windows and can do the same job, but better. As well as this, using some paper products like paper straws is much more sustainable than using their plastic counterparts.
2. Invest in smart bins
This may not be as much of a possibility for smaller offices as they can cost a lot, but smart bins are definitely the next product that needs to be widely adopted by the world. Essentially, these bins have the capability of identifying different materials and can separate them accordingly whether they are actually waste or recyclable.
3. Ditch the paper
In a world where everything is digital, the need for paper has decreased significantly. While there are still some places that require paper to function, the use of online documents with the help of cloud technology makes documenting greener and more efficient than paper.
4. Give incentives for green commuting
With cycle to work schemes already becoming much more popular with businesses, there needs to be good incentives for not only cycling to work but other methods of transport. With cars causing so much pollution, there needs to be more efforts to persuade employees to find better ways to travel that do not harm the environment as much. Even perhaps providing some incentives to switch over to hybrid or electric cars could be a great idea, especially as they have advanced significantly recently.
There are many ways a business can change their approach to their environmental awareness. These are just a few ideas, there are copious amounts of other methods. It is time to change our approach and at the end of the day, it will not only benefit the environment, but also the image of your company.
