From high school cliques to friendships and even magic!
Our teenage years remind us of the time when we had so many issues and we were misunderstood. Our families didn’t get us but most times our friends did. We got into trouble, we celebrated success, we made great friends. Some teenage tv shows remind us of those great times and are also here to give current teenagers a glimpse of some of these pains we felt, some of the joy we experienced, how we conquered great trials..ha-ha..Some also are a testimony to some deep prevailing issues in society, the aftermath of decisions taken and the struggle to understand why by the people left behind. The following five tv shows had entertained us, gripped us and made us want more plus guess what? They are coming to out screens in 2019. Let’s see the top five shows.
- Riverdale
This American teen drama television series based on the characters of the popular Archie comics. It is produced by Warner Bros Television and adapted for The CW. The filming takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia. The series debuted on January 26,2017 amidst great positive reviews. It has currently been renewed for a 4th season since January 31,2019 by The CW. The series revolves around the lives of its characters Archie Andrews( high school football player with a passion for music plus best friends with Jughead and Betty), Betty(smart girl with a longtime crush on her best friend Archie), Veronica(former wealthy socialite from New York City, moves to Riverdale and becomes friends with Archie, Betty and Jughead), Jughead(social outcast and Archie’s best friend). Other notable characters are Hermione (Veronica’s mother), Cheryl (classmate and attends Riverdale High), Josie (lead singer of a band called Josie and the pussycats). - 13 Reasons Why
Another American teen drama web television series developed for Netflix by Brain Yorkey and is based on the 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The series revolves around Clay Jensen a seventeen-year-old high school student and his deceased friend Hannah Baker, who kills herself after having to face a culture of gossip and sexual assault at her high school coupled with a lack of support from her friends and her school. Hannah recorded a set of cassette tapes leading up to her suicide detailing thirteen reasons why she took her life. Each tape recording refers to a different person involved in Hannah’s life contributing ton a reason for her suicide, both friends and enemies inclusive. The main characters are Clay(close friend of Hannah and feels like a failed protector), Hannah( the teenager who takes her life that unravels a series of events), Tony(Clay’s best friend who helps him deal with his guilt), Jessica(a student at Liberty High school where both Clay and Hannah attend, who joined the school at the same time as Hannah), plus other cast. The first season was released on Netflix on March 31,2017. The second season was renewed in May 2017, with the third season renewed in June 2018 to be released in 2019.
- Pretty Little Liars
Teen drama mystery thriller television series that follows the lives of four high school girls whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their leader. One year after the said disappearance, the estranged friends are reunited as they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure named ‘A’, who threatens to expose their deepest secrets. The series is loosely based on a novel series of the same name written by Sara Shepard. The series premiered on June 2,2010 and ended in June 27,2017. From it’s release, the series received great reviews and was a huge success with its season finale bagging the second-highest rating on cable Tv series with 1.41million viewers when it aired in October 26,2016. Come 2019, the series returns with a spin-off called Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, where some unresolved issues from the original series will be answered.
- Marvel’s Runaways
Created for Hulu by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, this teen television series is based on the marvel comics superhero team of the same name. The series is produced by ABC Studios, Marvel Television and Fake Empire Production. It outlines six teenagers who star as the Runaways, from different backgrounds, who unite against their parents called the Pride for evil acts they commit which their children (the Runaways) find out about. The six teenagers are not just ordinary kids but a nerd with high intellect as leader, a wiccan who is second-in-command with a gothic appearance, a human-alien hybrid burdened by her religious beliefs who wants to forge her own path and not follow in her mother’s footsteps plus she can fly and shoot beams of light, a girl who has a telepathic link with her genetically engineered dinosaur, a high school lacrosse player who is brilliant at engineering and has potential of being a genius and the youngest member of the runaways who has the ability of superhuman strength and invulnerability. The series premiered in November 2017 and continues in 2019.
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Also based on the Archie comic books of the same name, this American supernatural horror web tv drama is centered on the character Sabrina Spellman who must reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten all she holds dear i.e. her family and the daylight world inhabited by humans. From half-witch Sabrina, to love of her life Harvey to motherly Aunt Hilda, renege English cousin Ambrose under house arrest by the witch council for attempting to blow up the Vatican, murdered teacher, other great cast and characters, this series makes the top five on the list.
