HIBERNIAN have completed the signing of former Manchester United and West Ham United defender Jonathan Spector following a successful trial period with the capital club.
The 33-year-old has penned a contract until the end of the current campaign, although the paperwork will not be processed in time for him to face Motherwell on Saturday.
Spector, who was most recently on the books at Major League Soccer side Orlando City, has been training with the capital club for several weeks in a bid to prove his fitness and attended Hibs’ recent fixtures against Rangers, Celtic St Johnstone.
His capture will help to ease the defensive woes that head coach Paul Heckingbottom has faced since taking charge, with Ryan Porteous a long-term injury victim, Mark Milligan more comfortable in midfield and Efe Ambrose having departed in January.
Spector arrives with impressive pedigree after coming through the ranks at Manchester United, making nine appearances for the Red Devils before going on to play more than 300 games in English football with Charlton, West Ham Birmingham.
He also boasts 36 caps for the United States and was part of their 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup, albeit he did not feature at the tournament.
