Hearts manager Craig Levein has recruited former Leeds United and Barnsley left-back Aidy White on a deal until 2021.
The 27-year-old joins following over two years out of the game with a troublesome groin injury but the former Republic of Ireland cap is now working his way back to fitness and could feature before the end of the campaign.
White, who last played in January 2017 in a game for Barnsley, spent seven years at Elland Road before moving to Oakwell, where he plied his trade for two seasons until summer 2017.
Full-back has been a problematic position for Levein, with on loan Manchester United player Demi Mitchell picking up separate knee injuries in the last year that have restricted his game time.
Levein said: “We’ve been in dialogue with Aidy for a year and feel that now is the right time to bring him in.
“He’s got a lot of work to do in order to reach the level we think he’s capable of but I’m confident he can fulfill his potential and prove to be a vital cog in the wheel as we look towards the future.”
