Hilarious clip shows cop driving stolen mobility scooter back to its elderly owner

HILARIOUS video shows a cop solve the problem of how to return a stolen mobility scooter to its elderly owner – by driving it himself.

PC Carl Farrar is seen in the clip perched on the scooter as it drives it out of the police station in Penzance, Cornwall.

Onlookers can be heard giggling in the background at the sight, and the person recording plays along by reminding him to use his indicators.

Carl uploaded the footage to his personal Twitter page: “Last week we had a stolen mobility in Penzance which was subsequently found and returned to the station.

“The 87-year-old victim was overjoyed when I returned it to her! Although we couldn’t get it in our van so I had to drive it back!”

He can be seen at the start of the clip zooming along the street towards the oncoming junction and braking to check for traffic.

As he does so he is kindly reminded by the person recording: “Check your indicators!”

He switches on the right indicator before turning in that direction and continuing down the road.

A regular police vehicle follows on behind him, thought to be the cop’s escort after he delivers the scooter.

Speaking today PC Farrar said: “Due to the size and weight of the scooter we were unable to transport it back to the victim in one of our vans.

“We could have had the scooter delivered to the victim by our recovery agents however this would have been an unnecessary cost to the police, I therefore spoke with my sergeant and we agreed to drive it back.”

PC Farrar said the return of the scooter meant a lot to the victim.

He said: “The victim was absolutely delighted and tearful when we returned it, not only because we had found and returned it but also she now had her independence back.

“Being 87 years old with multiple disabilities she cannot walk very far and relies on the scooter for transport.”

Social media users responded in jest to the clip.

Neil Parker said: “With the ever increasing pension age I can see the force investing in a few.”

Matt Webb wrote: “Could be the eco friendly way forward, although high speed pursuit could be an issue!”

Tweeter @CherylCision commented: “All you needed was a blue light and you’d be set. Sshhh your bosses may actually take that seriously.”

Norma Moore said: “Oh bless – you look so cute too!”

Penzance Police revealed online that the scooter – valued at £1000 – was recovered after it had been stolen from the elderly lady when she parked it in the town.

In a statement about it they said: “The suspect for this crime has been identified by police using the town’s CCTV footage and enquiries are ongoing.”
