Hibs privately furious Celtic trio have avoided punishment after Darnell Johnson is pulled up- Scottish Football News

Hibs are understood to be privately furious that a trio of Celtic players have avoided being issued notice of complaints in the wake of defender Darnell Johnson being pulled up by Scottish FA compliance officer Clare Whyte.

On loan Leicester City player Johnson is facing a two-game ban after being charged with an alleged breach of disciplinary rule 200 – serious foul play – for a tackle on Hoops defender Emilio Izaguirre.

The challenge happened in the 80th minute of the Leith side’s 2-0 defeat at Parkhead on Wednesday and led to the Bhoys left-back being taken from the field on a stretcher.

Even though Johnson was booked for the challenge by referee Craig Thomson, Whyte has decided further action is necessary.

A fast track hearing has been pencilled on for Tuesday although Johnson will be available for Saturday’s Scottish Cup visit of Raith Rovers.

However, Hibs officials are said to be stunned that Celtic captain Scott Brown, defender Jozo Simunovic and striker Oliver Burke have all avoided Whyte’s attention.

Hibs were less than pleased with Simunovic’s aerial challenge on Oli Shaw in the same game, with the striker also being forced off.

They also feel Brown’s tackle on Mark Milligan warranted potential retrospective punishment, while the Leith side feel Burke fell to the ground far too easily inside the box.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday to address his challenge with Izaguirre, Hibs defender Johnson said: “I try always to challenge fairly’ respect to Emilio Izaguirre for greeting me after the match. #true professional.”
