Hilarity as ASOS name clothes after two of Glasgow’s toughest areas

A FASHION empire has sparked hilarity by naming trendy garments after two of Glasgow’s toughest areas.

Online fashion retailer ASOS were offering a “Shawland padded jacket” for £90 and a “Govanhill zip neck” for £65.

The gear was created by brand designer “Farah” although the inspiration for the names remains unclear.

The Farah Sport Shawland padded jacket comes in both black and blue and is said to have “functional pockets” as well as a “zip fastening with chin guard”

As for the white Govan zip neck, ASOS say the shirt is “not for the clumsy ones” and is “for that logo lifestyle.

Inspiration for the brand names is unclear

Images of the products were posted by @parcelorogues on social media last month.

He initially posted the zip neck with the caption: “Govanhill, the brand.”

Following this, he then found the Sport Shawland jacket and commented: “What about Strathbungo?” an area located within Govanhill.

In 2017, reports suggested that children as young as 12 in Govanhill were being sold for sex, whilst Owen Hassan from Shawlands was murdered outside a pub in November.

Many Twitter users coming up with their ideas for Glasgow-themed clothing names.

@Dapfalk said: “I’m busy knitting the Cardonald cardigan.”

@jennifermjones said: “Pollock Pants.”

@verblet, referencing Scottish TV comedy shows Still Game and Burnistoun, commented: “Look forward to half-a*d googling giving us Craiglang Sweaters and Burnistoun Khakis.”

@jennifermjones commented again with: “Crossmyloof joggers.”

John MacDonald shared a related anecdote: “In a Spanish sports shop, some years ago, an uncle of mine spotted a pair of Puma ‘Glasgow’ football boots. I wish he’d purchased a pair.”

Since the clothes emerged on Twitter, they are now being offered at half price, with the jacket costing £45 and the zip neck priced at £32.50.

Last year, Scots were in stitches after Nike dubbed their new trainers as bowfin.’

The shoes were described as sporting a ‘molded, dual-density foam for a smooth transition from heel to forefoot’.

However Twitter users were tearing them up in the comments with one user saying “Haw Shug! Yer gutties are pure bowfin by the way.”

The products were posted on social media as Twitter users seem to be baffled by the choice of names.
