A “LUNATIC” driver has been filmed drifting in heavy traffic at a roundabout soaked with rainwater.
The driver is seen drifting what appears to be a black BMW around the Horse Roundabout in Belvedere, London.
A 61-year-old man was killed at the same roundabout only five months ago in a hit-and-run incident.
Filmed last Thursday, by a man who wished to remain anonymous, the clip was posted to a private Facebook group for “bad drivers” caught on dashcam.
The video begins showing the horse statue in the middle of the busy and wet roundabout, in the foreground.
On the opposite side of the roundabout a black car can be seen beginning to accelerate.
The engine can be heard revving heavily as it speeds up and drifts sideways around the right curve of the roundabout.
With spray emanating from behind it, the make of car, what looks to be a BMW, can briefly be made out, as it drifts around the whole side of the roundabout.
Traffic continues on as normal as the camera follows the speeding car closely.
The revving engine of the black car can still be heard above the rest of the traffic as it completes one full circle of the roundabout in a complete drift.
It then slows down slightly as it joins back up behind a silver car, very close behind it.
The man who filmed the video declined to comment on why or how the video was take.
Some social media users were not impressed at the driver’s “death wish” driving, while others actually commended him for his “talent”.
Angel Davis wrote: “Death wish and/or just plain idiot.”
Steve Rutherford said: “He’ll cry like a little girl when he smashes the f*** out of it.”
Martin Rose-Smith commented: “Might be skilful but not on an open public road with other traffic about. Guy’s a d***.”
Despite the obvious danger, and the tragic recent history of the junction, others praised the driver’s “skill”.
Ryan Gunn wrote: “Time and a place to do this stuff but good driving skill as it’s very easy to lose control when it’s that wet. Wish I still owned my BMW so I could do this again.”
Alan Thomas said: “Great driving skills.”
Alan Yates commented: “Kid’s got more driving skills than most, well done sir.
Tony Appleby wrote: “ He’s not a lunatic, just a person who bought a BMW trying to go round a roundabout in the wet.”
Wayne Baird said: “I thought this group was for bad drivers? This driver has talent.”
RAC spokesman Simon Williams said: “This is a truly shocking, dangerous display of driving which put other road users needlessly at risk.
“This kind of driving should be confined to the safer environment of a race track instead of a public road where others could so easily be hurt by it.
“The driver clearly needs to be talked to by the police and prosecuted.”
A 61-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Horse Roundabout on March 13 earlier this year.
Gbolahan Akinlolu Odulate, from Erith, died from multiple injuries after being hit by a car.
A Mercedes was seen to stop at the scene before the occupants ran off.
Another dark coloured car failed to stop at the scene.
Drifting is a driving technique requiring great skill by the driver, whereby they intentionally uses oversteer to drive the car through a corner at speed.
