ALTER EGO Q&A – Raedie and Lucy

Deadline at the Fringe are interviewing performers across the month, putting 20 questions to them – both as an artist and as their stage or performance alter ego.

This show is called The Ballad of the Apathetic Son and His Narcissistic Mother with mother and son Lucy and Raedie who are doing a show together to bond, and using the music of Sia.

Raedie

1. First impressions of our fair city and, why are you here?

“Er well I’ve been before, obviously. I like it but its seems a bit posh and boring. I’m from Glasgow and here to do a show.”

2. Does your time here bring on joy or dread?

“Nah I don’t feel nervous but 14 days is quite long and that’s a bit mad and that.”

3. Are you a happy soul or do the occasionally dreich elements make you morose?

“Happy soul with a wee bit of the morose, jokes!”

4. Where will you visit on your day off and why?

“Well I’m gonna go to bed lol, Actually I’ve got to go to school!”

5. Do you ever get jealous of other performers?

“Yeah ones who don’t have to work with their Mum.”

6. Did you have a happy childhood?

“Nah, my Mum and Dad wouldn’t let me watch Horrid Henry.”

7. What does success and failure mean to you?

“Making money.”

8. Are you superstitious when it comes to performing?

“Nah.”

9. What is your biggest fear before going on stage?

“That I might need the toilet.”

10. What is your favourite saying?

“Can you lend me some money.”

11. What is your worst habit?

“I don’t eat enough salad.”

12. What do you love/hate about the festival?

“I’m pretty impartial.”

13. Tell me about your most passionate embrace.

“Nah!”

14. Do you wear knickers under your kilt?

“Like I’ve got a kilt?”

15. Most embarrassing moment?

“Doing a show with my Mum (Jokes).”

16. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

“With my pals.”

17. Who would you be if you were not you?

“Someone with like a mill likes on Insta.”

18. What Scottish delicacies do you enjoy and, do any of them fill you with fear?

“Buckfast (LOL, calm down Mum).”

19. What is your greatest ambition?

“To be a really successful musician.”

20. How can we bring world peace?

“Just sing more.”

Lucy

1. First impressions of our fair city and, why are you here?

“Well you see I’ve been many times and its pretty beautiful you know. I just love the architecture, and the atmosphere! We (my son and I) are hear to perform our show.”

2. Does your time here bring on joy or dread?

“Of course it brings joy, art really brings joy to my world. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous. That’s why I keep messing up my lines in rehearsal.”

3. Are you a happy soul or do the occasionally dreich elements make you morose?

“Well in rehearsals I build a beautiful and inspiring energy but occasionally when things go wrong I do lose that light some what but the sun never shines in Glasgow either.”

4. Where will you visit on your day off and why?

“I think i’ll treat myself to a Toby’s Carvery.”

5. Do you ever get jealous of other performers?

“Yes deeply, those people who have youth on their side mainly.”

6. Did you have a happy childhood?

“Yeah I had a good child hood, I mean I spent my 20’s processing it but it was acceptable.”

7. What does success and failure mean to you?

“It’s knowing that the work you make might impact on society, and politics and everything that’s important. Do you know what I mean?.”

8. Are you superstitious when it comes to performing?

“I bring a Rabbit’s foot on stage and wear it in my unitard.”

9. What is your biggest fear before going on stage?

“That I’ll mess up my lines and everyone will heckle me and throw eggs and me.”

10. What is your favourite saying?

“Do you want a cuddle?”

11. What is your worst habit?

“I can’t take a joke, I’ve no sense of humour at all.”

12. What do you love/hate about the festival?

“I love the ambiance but hate the very busy trains.”

13. Tell me about your most passionate embrace.

“All of them.”

14. Do you wear knickers under your kilt?

“Always.”

15. Most embarrassing moment?

“I try not to dwell on such things, but being patched is hard.”

16. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

“Watching the sunrise somewhere Mediterranean with a massive Gin in my hand.”

17. Who would you be if you were not you?

“The girl from American horror story.”

18. What Scottish delicacies do you enjoy and, do any of them fill you with fear?

“I do enjoy a well seasoned haggis from time to time.”

19. What is your greatest ambition?

“Just to be good at something.”

20. How can we bring world peace?

“I could talk about this all day, in fact I do talk about it all day.”
