AN American theatre-goer was so disgusted by Trainspotting live that she stormed out, screaming: “We are decent people!”
The woman even threatened to involve lawyers after paying up to £67 to attend the opening night of the show at Roy Arias Stages, off Broadway, New York City.
The 75-minute show, dubbed by critics as “grim and glorious”, is based on Irvine Welsh’s novel which was later turned into a cult hit film in 1996.
The live shows, suitable for over-16s, take on the story of a group of heroin addicts in an economically-depressed area of Edinburgh while they navigate through life.
Scenes include the notorious “Worst Toilet in Scotland” scene which sees main character Renton crawl inside a filth-splattered loo.
The show has been a huge hit back in Scotland but it appears that it might be too much for some Americans to stomach.
Greg Esplin, co-director of the show, last night (thur) wrote on Twitter: “God I love this show.
“Just had a woman storm out saying ‘Disgusting! You should all be ashamed of yourselves. You’ll hear from my lawyer! We are decent people.”
Greg, who also plays Tommy in the show, including laughing emojis and love hearts at the end of the tweet which he ended with the hashtags “#TrainspottingLive #NYC @IrvineWelsh”
When asked by an intrigued follower if the angry theatre-goer even made it past the “worst toilet” scene”, Greg said: “She couldn’t even deal with a bit of s***e on Rent’s chest! Honestly best review we have ever had.”
Clearly impressed by the sparkling review, Irvine Welsh re-tweeted the post.
Dozens of humoured followers also commented on the post and couldn’t understand what the woman actually expected to watch.
Joolz Cook wrote: “Why would you book a ticket to a show you didn’t know anything about. Did she think she was going to a WI talk about actual Trainspotting ?”
Alison Pentland said: “Hahaha love it, this one of the best shows around. You guys are fantastic. Keep disgusting people .”

Paul Devine said: “Seen it for the first time at the festival last year and i’d heard stories. still wasn’t prepared for it, it was amazing!
“All we got was one fainter. please keep up with these stories.”
And Tora Burns said: “Seen the show three times and each time there’s been someone in the front row who obviously has never seen the film. The look of shock and disgust is brilliant to watch.

Trainspotting is the story of Mark Renton and his friends, living through the Edinburgh heroin scene of the 80s.
The 1996 film starred actors including Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Euen Bremner.
Harry Gibson’s original stage adaptation, written before it became the famous blockbuster film, was instantly successful and controversial.
The show describes itself as a “no-holds-barred immersive, in-yer-face theatre production” which left Irvine Welsh feeling “blown away”.
