RAPIDLY becoming a household name in her native Ireland, Alison Spittle, one of the most vibrant voices in Irish comedy, is back in Edinburgh this year with her new show, Worrier Princess.
Last year, Spittle’s comedy series, Nowhere Fast, was about to make its television debut and she decided to visit a therapist to help her develop a thicker skin and brace herself for the inevitable “onslaught of pr**ks on the internet”.
The stories she told in these therapy sessions form the basis Worrier Princess. With an absurdist bent, Spittle navigates topics like anxiety, religion, female sexuality, misogyny, and more.
This will be her third time at the Fringe, following Alison Spittle Needs an Agent (2014) and Alison Spittle Discovers Hawaii (2016).
In her homeland she is something of fixture on irish TV. Besides creating, co-writing and starring in the RTE series Nowhere Fast, she also hosted Alison Spittle’s Culchie Club and Alison Spittle in Ireland (Sky Arts), and has appeared on The Late Late Show (RTÉ), Cutting Edge (RTÉ), The Six O’Clock Show (TV3), Republic of Telly (RTÉ), and This is Ireland with Des Bishop (RTÉ).
Spittle also has her own podcast,The Alison Spittle Show, for Headstuff, where she interviews celebrities including David O’Doherty, Sofie Hagen, Deborah Frances-White, Louise O’Neill, Tommy Tiernan and many more.
