EDINBURGH CITY have unveiled their brand new club crest – as they eye a fresh start on the pitch.
The League 2 outfit unveiled the badge, the brainchild of Dundee-based graphic designer Ryan McGinnis, at an event in the capital’s west end yesterday.
After two seasons of battling against relegation since their promotion to the SPFL, chairman Jim Brown is hopeful the modern logo is not the only change fans see next term as he challenged manager James McDonaugh to push for a playoff place.
“We’ve got to move forward to survive. A lot of the clubs we are playing against have been going for years and years so matching them in terms of budgets is impossible, so we need new ideas.
“We had discussions as a board with [director of football] Jim Jefferies and with James [McDonaugh] and it was decided that we needed to put in a lot more work to give James funds because we don’t want to be floundering at the wrong end of the table again.
“The only way we can ensure that is by bringing in a better class of player. This season we’ve had a bit of a clearout and James has brought in his own players, a good class of player.
“I’m not going to say we are going to win the league, but the middle of the league, towards the playoffs, is the minimum we would expect.”
