Dundee manager Neil McCann insists it will take ‘serious cash’ for the club to even consider selling highly-rated midfielder Glen Kamara.
The former Arsenal trainee is said to have attracted interest from the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Swansea and Derby County following a stand-out campaign for the Dens Park outfit.
The Finland internationalist, who made 46 appearances last term, still has a year to run on his contract with the Dark Blues and McCann insists the 22-year-old will only leave Dundee on the club’s terms.
He said: “As a manager you have to be prepare to bolster your squad and Glen Kamara has not gone under the radar.
“He’s not picked up all these player of the year awards because he has gone under the radar.
“We’re not ignorant that he’s not going to get attention. I’m not in a position to say Glen will not go, because if a big bid comes in for him like it did for Jack Hendry (from Celtic) and the club can use that to make itself better, then I have to make sure I equip my squad to go with that.
“I want to be stronger next year but I don’t want Glen Kamara to go anywhere and I tell you right now, Glen will be going nowhere unless it’s right for this club and I mean that will need to be some serious cash.
“Glen Kamara will not be walking out of Dens Park unless this club get a very, very big deal.
“If I have Glen in my side next year then I’m delighted because I’m trying to build something here.”
McCann is also bracing himself for potential interest in Steven Caulker during the summer after the experienced former Tottenham and Liverpool defender was the subject of a £1.8 million bid from Norwegian side Rosenborg in April.
The 26-year-old moved to Dundee on an 18-month contract in February in a bid to resurrect his faltering career and McCann admits there are no guarantees the centre-half will be at the club at the start of the new campaign.
Speaking in a question and answer session to fans, McCann added: “We sold Jack Hendry for a club record fee, we didn’t want to lose him and we had to go and replace him.
“Steven Caulker came in and we knocked back a huge bid, that was a fantastic effort from (managing director) John Nelmes and (owner) Tim Keyes and the club that they were able to do that because that was a real bid.
“He is a sought after player and he has a wonderful pedigree, I had to sweet talk him to get him to Dundee because it wouldn’t have been his first choice.
“Yeah, it’s a big risk to knock that money back for Steven Caulker but if we accepted it, we might not have been in the Premiership – it was a brave decision.
“I’m not saying we won’t lose Steven in the summer, but the club did some wonderful work to retain him on a longer contract.
“I think that risk paid off because I think he had some towering performances towards the end and we needed it.”
