Hibs head coach Neil Lennon insists he is considering his future at Easter Road in astonishing aftermath to Hearts defeat

NEIL LENNON has dropped a bombshell by insisting he will consider his position as Hibernian head coach this summer after watching his side slip to a meek 2-1 defeat against Hearts.

The Northern Irishman was visibly furious with the Hibees’ showing at Tynecastle as goals from Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith rendered a Floarian Kamberi penalty kick moot.

During an astonishing post-match media briefing, Lennon decried his players for a lack of professionalism and stated that a fourth-placed finish – guaranteed unless they beat Rangers 6-0 on Sunday – was not good enough

Lennon, who signed a new contract until 2020 earlier this season, went on to say that he needs to think about his own ambitions and personal situation in the coming weeks.

He said: “We’ll go and try to win the game on Sunday and finish with our highest points total [ever in the top-flight], but it’s not good enough and I’ll need to consider my position.”

Asked to clarify whether he meant he was weighing up his future as Hibs head coach, he said: “Yes. I’ve got things to think about, in terms of what my personal aims and ambitions are and my personal reasons.

“I can’t watch that. I can’t watch that in a derby. It’s not good enough.

“I’ve been here for two years now and I need to think about how I feel about things. Maybe things are a bit raw and emotional at the moment – but fourth is not good enough.

“The players have reached the standards I want this season, but against Hearts we had an opportunity to make sure we went into Sunday with everything to play for and we didn’t rise to the challenge.

“If they are not going to listen to me, if the messages aren’t getting through, then maybe someone else should come in.”

Lennon, meanwhile, confirmed that midfielder Dylan McGeouch will leave the club at the end of the season after failing to agree terms on an extended contract.
