Hearts wing-back Demi Mitchell admits scoring a stunning first ever competitive goal in front of his proud dad is a moment he will never forget.
The on loan Manchester United player curled a sublime left-footed strike into the top corner from 20 yards in the 54th minute, with his effort being sandwiched by a Kyle Lafferty brace in the 3-0 win over St Johnstone.
Mitchell was thrilled to finally get on the score sheet after going close on several occasions, and was delighted to contribute to Hearts reaching the Scottish Cup quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in six years with father Roger watching on from the stands.
“He watches every game on Hearts TV, as does my mum Sally.
“It’s the first goal I’ve scored at a first team level so I’ll always remember it.
“I’ve been close in previous games against Hibs, in the home game at Tynecastle I hit the post. I’ve been unlucky but I’ve finally got the first goal and I’m buzzing.
“I practised them in training on Friday and they weren’t quite coming off.
“But I felt like I had made a good connection when it left my boot.”
Hearts will face Motherwell in the quarter-finals and Mitchell is dreaming of going all the way.
He added: “I know how it works with winning the Scottish Cup and getting into Europe, and that’s something obviously we’re striving towards as well.
“Just to get through to the next round without having to play a replay is relieving as well. We can look forward to the quarter finals.
“I’m enjoying it here a lot. I’ve played six games and we’ve won four.
“That’s the most important thing because when you’re playing in a team that’s winning it’s more enjoyable.
“The team spirit is better and we’re through to the next round as well which gives us something to look forward to.”
