A SHOCKING video shows an “irresponsible” female cyclist going the wrong way in a busy road after jumping a red light – with a child strapped on the back.
The woman cycles on hazard markings as heavy traffic – including a large lorry – go in the opposite direction.
The video clearly shows a very young child sitting behind the unidentified woman as she cycles in Crewe, Cheshire.
Dash cam driver Gary Palin posted the footage on social media and slammed the woman for her actions, calling her “irresponsible” and “dangerous” for putting the young child at risk.
The incident happened on Monday morning at the town’s Nantwich Road and Gresty Road junction.
The clip begins with a busy filter of traffic coming from the left of the junction.
As a large blue flat bed truck appears and turns right onto the road, towards the dash cam driver, a woman on a bike comes into view who appears to be following the truck.
However, instead of going on the right side of the road, the woman instead turns into the wrong side of the road and towards a lane of oncoming traffic waiting at the lights.
She cycles straight over hazard warnings on the road, and makes no move to cross over to the right side – despite Gary stopping to give her plenty of space to do so.
As she passes the dash cam vehicle, a small child can be seen sitting in a child seat on the back of a bike – thankfully wearing a helmet.
HGV driver Gary was on his way home from a night shift when he witnessed the incident. Speaking today, he said: “I thought, she’s probably just jumped a red light so I decided not to move and see what she did.
“I expected her to cross my path and get back on the right side of the road but she continues to ride towards oncoming traffic at a very busy time. I couldn’t believe someone would pull a stunt like that and put a child at risk.
“At least the child has a helmet on.
“Being a HGV driver you are always on the lookout for cyclists doing the unexpected. She may have been trying to avoid being in the blue HGV’s “blind side” but this is simply dangerous and irresponsible.”
