Ultimate holiday destination for Nessie-Hunters for £580 per week

A STUNNING cottage with uninterrupted views overlooking the iconic Loch Ness could be the ultimate Nessie-hunter getaway – for as little as £580 per week.

Strone Castle Cottage is perfectly placed on a hill above the famous loch for visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive monster.

As well as overlooking the scenic waters of Loch Ness, the idyllic holiday home is placed directly above the remains of the historic Urquhart castle.

The traditional home, near Drumnadrochit in the Highlands, has already proved to be incredibly popular with tourists last year after it was fully booked.

Last year the home underwent a full refurbishment to allow holidaymakers to relax in luxury.

Nestled in the elevated position above the 500 year-old fort, Strone Castle Cottage looks over one of the most popular areas to see the beast living in the loch.

The home has such incredible views over the water, it has even featured in documentaries in search of Nessie.

According to the self-catering holiday website Cottages and Castles, the two bedroom house proved to be their most popular property in the country.

With prices starting at £580 for a weeks stay in January or February up to £900 over the Christmas and New Year period, visitors will be able to embrace the full Highland experience.

Featuring panoramic views from the two double bedroom, unique hand made furniture, a cosy fire place and oak flooring, holidaymakers can search for monster in comfort.

The but’n‘ben croft house also benefits from a secluded location sitting in nearly three acres of land with specially made viewing points over the loch dotted around the grounds.

Describing the picturesque home online Cottages and Castles said: “Set in what can only be described as a spectacular, secluded, elevated position above Loch Ness, directly overlooking the historic Urquhart castle ‘Strone Castle Cottage’ is a charming property fully refurbished in early 2017 with some of the most picturesque views we have ever seen.

“Several Loch Ness television documentaries have been filmed from the property over the years due to its unique vantage point overlooking both Loch and Castle, the most recent being Channel 5’s documentary on the monster, ‘Conspiracy: The Missing Evidence’ in November 2014.

“The property has been lovingly restored from a derelict building to a stunning, sympathetically remodelled cosy two up two down but’n‘ben croft house sitting in 3 acres of rough hill land…”

“Upstairs both bedrooms take advantage of the amazing views on offer.

Around one million people visit Loch Ness each year, generating an estimated £30 million for the local economy.

In 1934, the residents of the house would have witnessed from their windows the taking of the most notorious Nessie snap of all.

Known as the “Surgeon’s photo”, the picture was taken by Robert Kenneth Wilson, a London physician, on 21 April 1934.

However, the renowned snap was later revealed to be a fake by one of the participants, Chris Spurling, who, on his deathbed, said that the pictures were staged.

In November last year the eighth sighting of the monster year was accepted by the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register.

Nessie was reportedly spotted in Urquhart Bay, which the house looks out over by genetics expert Dr Jo Knight while on holiday.

The lecturer at Lancaster University was staggered to see an unexplained “fin” shape when looking through holiday snaps from her visit to the loch.

Dr Knight took the image while on a break in the area on November 2 after her son Sam wanted to go monster hunting.

According to the website, the house is still available for rental in 2018.
