TWO Facebook friends who share the same name but live 10,500 miles apart have gone viral after posting a picture of them enjoying a pint together.
Ryan Grenfell from Sydney, Australia, became pals with his namesake in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, a year ago.
The Scottish Ryan, 21, was ecstatic to get a call from his Australian friend, als0 21, who he calls “brother”, to say he was in Edinburgh.
Scottish Ryan jumped on the train to Edinburgh and a snap of the pair enjoying a pint of Tennents together has attracted over 29,000 likes on Twitter.
The two lads not only share similar birthdays – being born one month apart in the same year – but they also share similar occupations.
Aussie Ryan, a joiner, and Scottish Ryan, a metal fabricator, seem to have had a good night out trying local delicacies Irn Bru and Buckfast.
Scottish Ryan posted pictures of the pair to Twitter with the caption: “Ever added somebody on facebook because you have the same name?
“This is Ryan Grenfell from down under and he’s exactly one month older than me – weird as f***!
“He mailed me yesterday saying he had just landed in Edinburgh, so I went for a few pints with him. He’s a sick c***. #bro”
Scottish Ryan, speaking today (WED) said: “We spoke for a year mainly just about life in general, work, cars, nights out and things. We sometimes facetimed when we were drunk as well.
“I live in Carluke so I had to get the train to Edinburgh for a few pints with brother.”
He added: “I knew he was coming over, he’s to be touring Europe for a month with a friend.
“I got him on the buckfast, and he even likes Irn Bru now.”
Social media users were quick to respond to the post, and share stories of their own namesakes.
Danny Young said: “Mad. I used to know a kid about 10 years younger than me on a local estate. His name was Danny Young and we have exactly the same birthday. I still see him from time to time at football.”
Steven Renwick added: “Aye, there is another Steve Renwick who is a pilot living in the Caribbean. I sometimes receive his emails, it started with a job offer and an email from his wife. We have the same birthday, but different years!”
Ainsley Devlin commented: “OMG, the Ainsley Devlin I talk to all the time has the exact same birthday as me too, how strange.”
While Brandon Jones revealed he is in a 300 member strong group of Brandon’s. He said: “There’s a Facebook group I’ve been in for eight years where each Brandon Jones updates what they’re up to.”
And Vanguard Kerrs added: “There’s a guy on Facebook with same name as me, once a month or so I go on his wall and like a random status. I’ve been doing it for about two years now. He just got promoted to shift manager in McDonalds….I’m so proud of that mofo.”
A Toronto man made headlines in 2014 by offering a free round-the-world air ticket to a woman with the same name as his ex-girlfriend.
Jordan Axani, 28, and this then girlfriend, named Elizabeth Gallagher, booked heavily-discounted round-the-world air tickets before their relationship ended.
After he posted his offer on social media site Reddit, he received thousands of emails – including 18 from actual Elizabeth Gallaghers with Canadian passports.
