Mum left “disgusted” after discovering mould on child’s Tesco jelly

A “DISGUSTED” mum was left horrified after discovering a fruity jelly she was about feed her young daughter was laden with mould.

Amanda Plunkett purchased the “Tropical Flavour Jelly with Peaches and Pears” from a Tesco store last week for her three year-old child.

However, despite the products best before date being nearly two years away, dated March 2019 on the packaging, there was a thick layer of blue and green mould on top.

The mum-of-one from from Coventry, West Midlands, bought the jelly from the store at Arena Park Shopping Centre in the city.

Miss Plunkett only made the gruesome discovery after taking the pot of fruit and jelly out of the packaging.

Thankfully the careful 23 year-old mum noticed the peculiar looking food before feeding it to her daughter.

Miss Plunkett has said she complained officially to Tesco and also posted on their Facebook page, but claims they “didn’t seem too bothered.”

Tesco Tropical Flavour Jelly Peach and Pear Pieces are available in four packs at a cost of £1.50.

After making the grim find on December 30, Misss Plunkett posted a picture of the stomach turning snack on Tesco’s Facebook page, adding: “Just purchased these from Tesco about half an hour ago, absolutely disgraceful.

“Look at all that mould. Luckily I noticed before giving them to my three-year-old daughter.”

One social media user replied: “Eww glad your daughter didn’t eat that. Thank god you noticed.”

Another added: “I would have recommended a trip to Specsavers if you hadn’t noticed.”

Tesco replied to the post offering to investigate and give a refund.

They added: “I’m so sorry the jelly you purchased is mouldy. This is very inconvenient and I’m deeply sorry for this.

“I’d like to ensure your feedback is logged on our system and I will issue a refund via a Tesco Moneycard.

“Lastly, can you confirm you’re happy for us to forward your details to the supplier? The suppliers may want to speak with you regarding your complaint.”

Miss Plunkett said that she has registered a complaint with Customer Care was told that it would be logged. She hasn’t heard anything further yet.

Speaking today (WED) she said: “I was disgusted as they were bought for my three-year-old daughter and as you can see in the picture there is so much mould. You couldn’t have noticed whilst in the store as it was in packaging.

“I have logged a complaint with Tesco. They have said they will log it, but don’t seem too bothered about it.”

Tesco were contacted but declined to comment.

Last month a similar incident happened when Wick mother Emma Harper found “slimy, black mould” in an Ella’s Kitchen baby food pouch bought in Tesco that she was about to feed her five-month-old daughter Elena.

While last week dozens of furious families claimed that Tesco had ruined their Christmas dinners when turkeys that they bought from the supermarket chain were rotten and tasted like bleach or acid.
