Boots’ bogus price cut is £5 more expensive than original price

BOOTS have been caught out offering a bogus price cut after a customer spotted that the “sale” ticket was £5 more than the original price.

The high street chain offered a grooming kit supposedly marked down from £40 to £30.

But eagle-eyed Teresa Miller realised the true original price was still underneath – £24.99.

The civil servant, who spotted the blunder at Boots’ store in Telford, Shropshire, posted an image on the firm’s Facebook page.

Teresa, from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, called for them to be reported to trading standards.

Boots have since apologised, thanked Teresa, 54, for pointing out the error and removed the sign from the store.

Teresa took to the high-street chemist’s Facebook page to point out the error

She wrote on social media on New Year’s Eve: “I was in Boots today, this item was ticketed on sale for £30 reduced from £40.

“If you lift up the sign and hey presto it was £25. Sharp practice or what? Should be reported to trading standards.”

Adding another picture she commented: “Here’s another really angry with this.”

Theresa added that the couple decided to pass on the kit. She said: “We didn’t want it by that point, but it’s the principle anyway, people are buying this stuff thinking they are getting a bargain.”

The “sale” tag claimed the product was reduced from £40 to £30

A spokeswoman for Boots said: ““We’d like to thank the customer for bringing this to our attention. The Philips Groom Kit Series 3000 was on sale at a promotional price of £24.99 from December 4 to January 2 and the RRP of this product is £40.

“We’d like to apologise that the previous promotional price of £29.99 was displayed earlier in the Christmas period was not removed from store. We contacted the store immediately and the incorrect promotional price has been taken down.”

Social media users suggested Teresa should have taken the grooming kit to the till and argued for the lowest price.

Sammy Jo Driver said: “You take it to the till and say you want it for £25.”

While Alan Blount added: “You pay £25, that’s what it’s marked up as.”
