Tesco send kid’s Xmas present in box so battered he could see inside

TESCO have apologised after sending a child’s main Christmas present inside a box so battered he could see the Go-kart inside.

Joanne Anfield reckons the supermarket has “ruined” her three-year-old’s Christmas as a result of the shoddy packaging.

She posted pictures showing the remains of the box looking like it had been run over by a lorry. The top and end had split, clearly showing little James’ gift inside.

Remarkably, the Tesco “Turbo Champion Go Kart”, which cost Joanne £60 from Tesco Direct, had suffered a few scratches.

As well as apologising, Tesco is sending a replacement and £10 compensation, although Joanne, 34, from Widnes, Cheshire, says the surprise factor has been ruined.

Joanne also claims the delivery driver laughed at her when she asked him what had happened to her package.

The three-year-old then proceeded to ask his mum why the delivery driver was bringing his present from Santa.

Joanne took to the company’s Facebook page to vent her frustration and uploaded a series of pictures of the broken up box. She wrote: “I am absolutely furious my three-year-old’s Christmas present has turned up like this, and when I asked the driver what’s happened he just laughed.

“I don’t think it’s very funny Tesco. That is the one present my son asked Santa for, and it has just been delivered in this state. There was no way of hiding it.”

Speaking today, she added: “James asked, ‘Why is the man bringing my stuff from Santa that I asked for?’”

On social media, Lauren Graham wrote: “If someone delivered me that I would have told them to shove it and ask the company for a refund. I think they are generous for replacing it, once you’ve accepted a parcel some places won’t refund or replace unless it’s damaged, because you have accepted it in that condition.”

While Ben Harris asked: “Why did you even accept the delivery?”

A Tesco spokeswoman said: “To help put things right we have apologised to Joanne, sent a replacement item and offered a gesture of goodwill. We hope her son enjoys his present and the whole family have a wonderful Christmas.”
