Livingston manager David Hopkin has revealed that highly-rated pair Matthew Knox and Danny Mullen are both on trial at English Championship outfit Cardiff City.
Playmaker Knox and striker Mullen joined up with Neil Warnock’s side on Wednesday and will remain in the Welsh capital until the Lions travel to the Cardiff City stadium for next Friday’s friendly.
Hopkin will be without both players for the forthcoming Betfred Cup matches against Airdrie and Stranraer.
Mullen scored 17 goals for Livingston during last season’s League One title triumph and Hopkin insists a club the size of the West Lothian outfit rely on transfer fees to survive.
He said: “We’ll be without Matthew and Danny for the next two games as they’ve both gone on trial at Cardiff City.
“We’re not pushing them out of the door but if a club comes in and makes an offer for our players and it suits both parties, then great.
“We need to survive, we’ve probably got the lowest full-time budget in Scottish football.
“If a club comes in and asks to take a look at our players, we can’t afford not to let them go.
“People made a lot of Matthew not playing much last season but it was a challenging league and we had to manage him properly.
“In the last five or six weeks he’s played against the likes of Hearts, Sunderland, Motherwell and Kilmarnock and done well because that’s a level of football that suits him.”
