HIBS head coach Neil Lennon insists there is plenty more to come from summer signing Simon Murray after the striker bagged a debut double.

Murray, 25, helped the Hibees to a comfortable 4-0 win over Montrose in their Betfred Cup opener on Saturday, opening his account after joining the club from Dundee United.

The tireless forward also set up impressive namesake Fraser Murray for just the youngster’s second ever senior goal.

Hibs, who snapped up Lithuanian forward Deivydas Matulevicius on Wednesday, remain in the hunt for at least one more attacker, and hope to have an answer from long-term target Anthony Stokes by the weekend.

Nevertheless, Lennon was delighted by the impact made by the other marksman captured during the close season

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Ross County, the Easter Road chief told Hibs TV: “It was a really good afternoon for Simon, and he could have had a few more goals as well.

“He can be really pleased with his contribution.

“He keeps getting himself in the right positions, he got two good headers and worked very hard for the team – and there is more to come from Simon.”

The triumph over the Links Park men also saw Ofir Marciano enjoy his first outing since making his loan deal from Ashdod permanent.

And Lennon could not hide his delight after getting the Israel internationalist tied to a bumper four-year contract.

He added: “I think we’ve got a very good goalkeeper there. He performed brilliantly last year and, for that position, we are getting a player at a very good age. He is fresh, as he didn’t play much football the season before last, and he is quality.

“He brings composure and class to the position so I’m delighted to get him done on a long-term deal. It is always important to have a good goalkeeper when you the the step up and I think we have that.

“I think he really enjoyed being here, he enjoyed the football and he enjoyed the culture that Scotland gives. He is very enthusiastic about the move and we’re really pleased.”
