Hibs head coach Neil Lennon insists he expects defender Efe Ambrose to return to training this week following a longer than expected break.
Nigerian internationalist Ambrose, who converted his loan from Celtic into a permanent deal earlier this summer, has missed the Leith side’s opening two pre-season games against Dunfermline and Sunderland.
Lennon said: “Efe is having a break, a bit longer than I expected but he’ll be in soon.
“He’s having a break but he had an eight month break last season, it will be no problem.
“He should be in this week and with the condition he’s in it will not take long to get up to full speed anyway. It’s not an issue.”
Blackburn striker Anthony Stokes and Scotland defender Steven Whittaker, who have both been linked with a return to Easter Road, were in the crowd for Lewis Stevenson’s testimonial against Sunderland on Sunday and Lennon admits he plans to add one new signing in the coming days.
He added: “I’m hoping to bring in one this week, we’re working away.
“I don’t think we’re far away from bringing one player in anyway.
“It’s difficult to keep things quiet but we are on the look out for attacking players, obviously.
“With Whittaker, it’s moving on but it will take maybe another week or so between talks and trying to persuade Steven, things are positive though and we’re hoping we’ll get a positive outcome.”
