Lenin appears in cloud above Thurso

THE face of Lenin has appeared in clouds above a small town in the Scottish Highlands.

The Russian revolutionary is seen frowning down on Thurso in a remarkable picture captured by local Lynne Gunn.

Lenin’s trademark moustache and goatee beard, thinning hair and arched eyebrows are all present in the image.

The reason for the sudden appearance of Lenin in the skies could have something to do with the recent election of Liberal Democrat Jamie Stone as the MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

THE face of Lenin has appeared in clouds above a small town in the Scottish Highlands.

Or perhaps it relates to the decision last year of the UK’s last elected communist councillor, Willie Clarke, to step down after representing a ward in Fife for many years.

After Lynne posted the picture “as a bit of fun” she has received dozens of comments.
Terry Wills wrote: “Looks like Lenin to me.”

Gregor Boyd said: “Looks like Lenin.”

Mark Anderson also agreed, writing: “Lenin.”

And George Dickson added: “Looks like Lenin to me.”

However, other suggestions included Adolf Hitler, Alfred Hitchcock, Mussolini and even a Star Wars stormtrooper.

Lenin

While Lenin’s spirit is apparently hovering above northern Scotland, his well-preserved mortal remains have been on public display in Moscow’s Red Square since his death in 1924.

Lenin, born Vladimir Ilich Ulanov in 1870, was the founder of the Russian Communist Party, leader of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and the first head of the Soviet Union.

In 1918, he survived an assassination attempt, but was severely wounded and ended up suffering long term health problems.

In 1922 he suffered a stroke, never fully recovering and two years later died.

His corpse was embalmed and placed in a mausoleum on Moscow’s Red Square where it remains today.
