SAM NICHOLSON is set to complete a glamour switch to MLS side Minnesota United this weekend – once a sell-on clause can be agreed in his two-and-a-half-year contract.
The 22-year-old’s transfer Stateside will deny Hearts the compensation they would have been due had Nicholson stayed in the UK, where Aberdeen, Bristol City and Barnsley had been keen on securing his services.
However, the Scotland under-21 cap, who has been at Hearts for a decade and has played over 120 times for the club, is eager his boyhood heroes should not lose out if Minnesota benefit from a transfer fee in the future.
The level of the percentage sell-on clause he has requested is one of a few details still to be ironed out.
But, barring any last-minute hitches, the winger – who was impressed with what Minnesota had to offer during a visit there earlier this month – is expected to finalise his move to the MLS’s newest franchise in the next 48 hours.
