GARY IRVINE is convinced St Mirren can continue the momentum they built at the end of last season to challenge in the Championship next term.
The former Dundee and St Johnstone defender has penned a new 12-month contract to stay with the Buddies.
And the 32-year-old believes familiarity can breed success following the retention of manager Jack Ross and the majority of the players who eased the club away from relegation trouble in the closing weeks of the campaign.
Speaking as the Paisley outfit returned for pre-season training on Thursday, he told @CCP_sport: “With the way we finished the season, I can’t wait for the new season to start and I’m sure we can kick on.
“That the manager is still with us, after the speculation with him, and the majority of the squad, plus the way we performed at the end of the season to stay up, are all massive positives.
“It still feels like the same dressing-room that built that feel-good factor at the end of the season and we want to build on that and take that into the new season.
“You have to be careful with predictions when you’re just getting back into pre-season training.
“But, looking at how well we finished and the fact we’ve kept the majority of that squad, I’m sure we will be able to give anybody a game next season.”
