LIAM BUCHANAN insists he is relishing the challenge of repeating Livingston’s League One title success after joining Raith Rovers.

Buchanan was joined by former Alloa team-mate Greig Spence and ex-Motherwell defender Euan Murray in becoming new Rovers manager Barry Smith’s first signings since the Fifers were relegated with John Hughes at the helm last month.

The 32-year-old banged in 27 goals to shoot Livi to promotion back to the Championship this term and joked his PFA Scotland player of the year accolade made him the perfect recruit for the Stark’s Park men.

Buchanan, who had been offered fresh terms to stay with Livi, told @CCP_sport: “I see the potential in the club as being massive and the challenge that awaits them next season is something I’ll relish.

“What better way to get out League One than to sign the best player in the division!?

“Seriously, we’re under no illusions how difficult it’s going to be. It’ll be a harder league than it was for Livingston and it’s not going to be easy, but hopefully we can get off to a good start and build from there.”

Buchanan will resurrect a forward pairing he formed at Alloa after Spence made the move to Kirkcaldy at the same time on Friday.

The former Celtic youngster netted 23 goals in 71 appearances during a two-season spell with Rovers before leaving in 2014 for Alloa, where he partnered Buchanan in attack.

Buchanan added: “You can’t argue too much with Greig’s goal-scoring record, he’s scored goals wherever he’s been, and when we were at Alloa before we formed a good partnership.”

Murray came through the ranks at Motherwell and, having also played for Clyde and Stenhousemuir, spent last season with Southport in the National League.
