Hibs may have to agree to Ashdod’s 50 per cent sell-on clause if they are to sign goalkeeper Ofir Marciano on a permanent deal.

According to reports in Israel, the Leith outfit cannot afford to pay Ashdod’s valuation of the player and the clubs are now said to be negotiating an alternative arrangement that would allow Hibs to pay a nominal sum.

And that could see the 27-year-old, who played 29 games on loan in Hibs’ Championship-winning season, effectively being half owned by each club.

Hibs head coach Neil Lennon has made no secret of his desire to convert Marciano’s loan into a permanent arrangement.

Lennon has already signed attacking midfielder Danny Swanson and striker Simon Murray from St Johnstone and Dundee United respectively, while Efe Ambrose has agreed a two-year deal following last season’s successful loan from Celtic.
