Former Scotland assistant manager Peter Houston reckons Celtic will be kicking themselves for not pursuing their interest in England internationalist Dele Alli.
Houston was part of the Hoops scouting team when the current reigning Scottish champions were weighing up whether to make a move for Alli during the 2013/14 campaign as the midfielder was playing in his first full season for MK Dons.
Alli’s career has gone from strength to strength after moving to Tottenham for £5 million in 2015, with the player, who has scored 23 goals this term, having recently been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Current Falkirk manager Houston believes Celtic will now look back with regret at not stepping up their interest in the highly-rated 21-year-old, who is part of the England squad heading to Hampden for Saturday’s crucial World Cup qualifier.
He said: “I worked for Celtic for a little while and in the scouting department they had a list of players, John Park, at the time, had a list of players and Dele Alli was on that list.
“Celtic had watched him a couple of times as a young player starting to break through, I bet they wished they had signed him.”
