THIS could be the most comfortable bus stop in Britain – if you have a head for heights.
The bizarre image shows a two-seater sofa perched eight feet above the pavement on top of a bus stop.
How the brown leather sofa got there is a mystery to Edinburgh’s commuters, who usually have to make do with bench-style seating.
The image of the double decker stop, in the Oxgangs area of the city, has sparked considerable online banter including from the area’s main bus operator.
Posting the amusing image online, Twitter user @Irechan86 said: “@on_lothianbuses I gotta say, I’m loving the new comfy seats at the bus stops! Great service altogether!”
Commenting on the photo social media user @philrrob replied: “Probably a chaise Bus stop type seat with room for two upstairs.”
Another Twitter user, @betamother sent Edinburgh City Council a message informing the group about the sofa.
She said: “@Edinburgh_CC hi, large sofa on the top of the bus shelter at the Greenbank Crescent end of Oxgangs Avenue. @on_lothianbuses”
Responding to the message, Lothian buses said: “How on earth?”
@betamother replied: “I know! Honestly. Brown leather if anyone’s interested… Seriously though, it did concern me seeing someone in the shelter beneath it.”
However, it was bad news for anyone looking for a comfortable wait for the bus with the council tweeting the sofa would be removed.
They said: “I have reported this to our task force team to investigate and have this removed.”
