Luke Leahy wins PFA Scotland goal of the season nomination but would love a ‘tap-in’ to get Falkirk promoted

LUKE LEAHY has been nominated for the PFA Scotland goal of the season award for the second year running – but insists a tap-in would give him more pleasure if it got Falkirk promoted.

The left-back scooped Falkirk’s club goal accolade this week, despite teasing from his team-mates that his strike against Dumbarton in February was a cross.

The 24-year-old looped a stunning volley into the far corner from the left side of the box but would be thrilled to play any part in the Bairns reaching the Premiership via the forthcoming play-offs.

He said: “I’ve been nominated for the PFA Scotland goal of the season and that’s the second year running, so I’m happy with that.

“A few of the boys are still saying it’s a cross but I won the Falkirk goal of the season award earlier this week and I said then it can’t be a cross two years in a row.

“Hopefully I’ve got one more in me to get us promoted.

“I saved one for Hibs last year in the play-off semi-final, so it would be nice to do the same again this season.

“But I would take a tap-in or anything – even if it’s not me, any goal from a Falkirk player!”

Falkirk sit second going into the final game of the season against Dumbarton on Saturday.

The runners-up will play two less games because of a bye to the semi-final of the play-offs and Leahy admits the Bairns are desperate to have that advantage.

He added: “We know what we have to do this weekend. We have to win the game, so there’s just a bit of added pressure.

“Dumbarton are actually a very good side. They get the ball down and they have players there who can hurt teams.

“I don’t think they’ll lie down or anything because they’re safe. They’ll want to finish the season on a high and we’ll have to be at our best to get three points over there.

“It should be an eventful Saturday, with a few nervous people.”
