Morton striker Gary Oliver insists there will be an edge to Saturday’s visit of Championship leaders Hibs – but only because both teams are vying for the title.
The goal-less draw between the sides at the end of last month was overshadowed by the injury-time scuffle that saw Morton striker Kudus Oyenuga, Hibs defender Darren McGregor and opposition bosses Neil Lennon and Jim Duffy all sent off by referee Nick Walsh.
But with Ton, who are 11 points adrift of Hibs with a game in hand, refusing to throw in the towel on an automatic promotion place, former Hearts marksman Oliver reckons both Morton and Hibs will be fired up for the weekend’s showdown.
He said: “It’s still possible we can catch them and we’ve got to play one more game than them. We’re just trying to finish as high as we can and see where it takes us.
“There will be a little edge just because of where we are in the league. They will be trying to put us to bed and get out of sight but we’re trying to get as close to them as possible.
“We’re playing the league leaders on Saturday and we’ll have to be on our A game if we want to take anything from it. Hopefully we will be.”
Morton striker Oyenuga’s reckless tackle on Jordon Forster sparked the mass melee at Easter Road but Oliver reckons the scenes that followed detracted from what was a decent performance in Leith.
He added: “The incident at the end took away the hard work that we put into the game, and overshadowed how well we did in that game.
“I thought we played quite well, we made it hard for Hibs and had a few chances, and on another day we might have taken three points but it’s a good point.
“That’s put to be bed now, the players will not even think about it when we’re out playing. It’s all forgotten about and I’m sure it will be a good match.
“Hopefully on Saturday we can take all three points.”
