PETER GRANT reckons he is ready for whatever the run-in throws at Falkirk after keeping Hibs veteran Grant Holt quiet at the weekend.
The Bairns stopper turned in a defiant defensive display at Easter Road on Saturday and looked to have helped the visitors earn a point before James Keatings’ stunning injury-time winner.
Grant, son of the former Celtic favourite of the same name, has confessed Peter Houston’s outfit were left shell-shocked by the way they succumbed to the 2-1 defeat.
But the 23-year-old has been heartened by the way they stood up to the league leaders’ attacking dangers and by the way he relished his own battle with Holt, who he used to watch playing for his dad’s old club Norwich City.
Grant, who spent nine months out with knee ligament damage before returning in November, said: “I always feel when you come up against someone as experienced as that, who has been around some big clubs down south and built up great experience over the years, that it’s a good test.
“You know what you’re going to get from him and I really enjoyed it.
“I watched him when I was down south and watched him playing for Norwich, and I know the attributes he’s got. We knew the problems he can cause for defences.
“Obviously, to come up against someone like Jason Cummings, who has the quality he’s got and scores the number of goals he does, was also a test.
“Then, they brought on Brian Graham and James Keatings, and they had Martin Boyle down the side. Hibs have got a great mixture to choose from.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the test and really enjoyed playing in the game.”
Ultimately, though, the defeat has left Falkirk 11 points adrift of Hibs with just six games remaining and only 18 points left to play for.
They also lost second place to Morton following the Greenock side’s stormy draw with Hibs on Wednesday night.
With the Bairns desperate for another shot at promotion back to the Premiership following last season’s heartbreaking play-off final defeat to Kilmarnock, Grant knows the importance of Saturday’s visit of Raith Rovers.
He added: “We take the positives from the Hibs game and take them into this massive home game against Raith.
“We’ve got to take those energy levels, the drive and the passion from the Hibs game into this one.”
