School’s Braveheart battle goes viral – after Indyref2 bid

A SCOTTISH school’s hilarious re-enactment of a famous battle against the Auld Enemy has gone viral – following the SNP’s bid for an Indyref2.

The video shows schoolkids with blue-painted faces fight their English foes in an assembly hall at Calderglen High, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.

Some of the youngsters playing English leaders put on very passable “posh” accents as they urge their troops to slaughter the Scots at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

The battle, made famous by 1995 film Braveheart, is played out by youngsters who take on the roles of key figures such as William Wallace and Sir Hugh de Cressingham.

The video was made last year but since it was reposted has already got 2,000 retweets and 3,200 likes.

At the start of the video, a young William Wallace, wearing face paint and a draped Scotland flag, repeats a famous line from the movie, stating: “They can take our lives but they’ll never take our freedom.”

The clip then cuts to a young girl, who is playing English advisor Cressingham.

Imitating a posh English accent, she states: “I’m Hugh Cressingham, leader of the English army, William Wallace is a barbarian, we’re going to destroy the Scots.”

The rest of the class introduce themselves as they prepare for battle in the assembly hall, seperated by a line of football cones.

And then, after a short speech by de Cressingham, the two sides charge at one another, weapons in arms, as bagpipe music is played in the background.

In light of Sturgeon’s announcement that the SNP will seek an independence referendum next year, the video began to be shared thousands of times.

Social media users reacted with delight after seeing the video.

Bex Lafferty wrote: “I’m f****** howling” whilst a user known as Michael called the kids “sons of Scotland.”

Johnny McG said: “Scotland tops on tee.”

Many users particularly enjoyed the part of one schoolboy, who plays a character called Brian.

When the Scots introduce themselves at the start of the video, the majority snarl and scream at the camera, shaking their weapons, but Brian, with a smirk on his face and no costume, simply says “I’m Brian”, in a resigned tone.

Liam McCandlish said: “Brian had me howling.”

Ross Carruthers wrote: “I’m Brian” killed it!”

Whilst Will Ure added: “We are all Brian.”
